Friday evening, August 24, 2018 at around 8 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of a multiple vehicle crash on Highway 87, about 8 miles north of Burkeville near 255.
According to Texas DPS, preliminary reports indicate that a 2014 Yamaha motorcycle driven by 28 year old Richard Calvin Henry, Jr., was traveling south on Hwy. 87. A 2015 GMC pickup truck, driven by a 47 year old male from Jasper, was traveling south on Hwy. 87. Henry, who drove the motorcycle, entered a sharp curve at an unsafe speed and lost control of the vehicle. The driver fell off the motorcycle and the bike traveled off the road, but it seems that the driver slid across the highway becoming trapped underneath the oncoming truck. Richard Henry, Jr., of Georgia, was killed in the accident. Judge Mike Greer pronounced Henry deceased at the scene. The driver of the GMC was not injured. DPS reports that this is an ongoing investigation and there are no further details at this time.
