Go Texan BBQ Cook-Off This Weekend in Newton County
Did you know that the Newton County Go Texan team gave scholarships totaling $5,000 to local students this year? Well, they absolutely did! They love supporting local youth and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. One of the fantastic ways they raise funds to be able to help local youth is through their Annual Go Texan BBQ Cook-Off, Dance and Auction. You can be a part of supporting local youth by coming out to enjoy the fun and festivities.
Friday and Saturday BBQ lunches with your choice of pork steaks, ribs, boudain, zummos and all the fixings will be served. Friday night things really start rolling with a dance and auction featuring Linda Kay and the Kool Kats from 8 to midnight. A one-bite challenge/appetizer competition will be held with a $10 entry fee. There is an unlimited entry rule with 50/50 split. The turn in time for the competition is 7 p.m. Friday night.
Saturday, September 8 at 11 a.m., the barbecue cook-off judging begins. The judging ends at 3 p.m. with awards to follow. Arts, crafts, junk and various vendors from all over the area will be present starting Friday and Saturday to sell their goods. For entertainment and fun, music and washers will be enjoyed under the pavilion. It is certain to be a grand old time for all those who want to swing by and bid, or dance, or buy just something snazzy. Come join the fun!
