The Eagles Roll the Tigers

Early in the 1st quarter Silsbee revealed their plans to control the clock and keep the Eagles offense off the field.  The strategy looked to be paying off when Newton went three and out on their first possession.  Silsbee slowly drove down the field.  Five minutes later the Tigers punch in a short 1-yard touchdown 7-0, Tigers.  The Eagles quickly tried to respond on their second possession, but a long pass by Josh Foster to Tamauzia Brown was intercepted.  Brown would soon return the favor.  After the Eagles shut Silsbee down 3 and out, the Eagles took 5 plays and 60 yards.  Tamauzia Brown finished it off with a 5-yard touchdown on a reverse.  Kicker Caleb Colon’s after-point attempt was blocked so the Tigers remained in the lead 7-6 with 3:40 left in the first.

The Eagles did well not to get discouraged and stayed focused after a few mistakes seemed to stall the offense at times.  This team has proven they can handle the pressure and they seemed to remain focused.  Newton rolled to victory with a score of 56-14.

Coach Johnston said “It was a sloppy game for the Eagles.  This team hasn’t fumbled in two years.  I don’t know what was going on with that.  They will need to be focused on correcting those mistakes at practice this week.”

The Eagles will face West Orange Stark this Friday night.  For those who cannot make the game, it will be aired live on 102.7 and setxsports.com, plus the Facebook link.
