Many people are on a evacuation list because they are elderly and disabled and do not drive, If Newton would open the civic center or any building that is more sturdy than most of the homes and mobile homes residents live in then we could feel more safe because last year during Laura many people on that evac list did not get that call for help evacuating. Many had to stay in their homes or trailers not knowing if they would survive Laura. We even called sheriff’s. department last year and we’re told there would be no one to help us until storm was over. My friend is 77 and every year I sign him up for emergency evacuation for the sole purpose of what happened last year when Newton Texas was told to evacuate. No one called and there was no one to help many elderly or the disable and do not drive. 211 did not help nor did the list he was on. Newton needs to designate a safe building one more sturdy than a trailer so at least they could ride the storm out in a much better place. Now this year we got the call for him to be on list again and it is hurricane season again but please consider opening civic center or a church for people who do not have transportation or people to evacuate them. Please Newton, Texas designate a building just till storm passes because last year for 4.2 hours our home was jolted and hit with severe and it was not our choice to stay.

Ms. Green, You may want to call Judge Weeks office at 409-379-5691 when they open Tuesday. They can help connect you with evacuation details and offer some guidance on what help the county will offer.
      God Bless You,
